Terms of Use
KanChinese · last updated 5 October 2026
These terms
These terms apply when you use the KanChinese app on Android or iPhone, or the website at kanchinese.app. By using KanChinese you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
If you got the app from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s Standard End User License Agreement also applies. Where the two say different things about the App Store version, Apple’s agreement wins.
How we handle your data is in the Privacy Policy.
What KanChinese is
KanChinese helps you learn Mandarin Chinese with short video clips, HSK courses, word reviews, a dictionary, grammar notes and games. The clips, characters and voices in the videos are made with the help of AI tools. We check the Chinese, the readings and the translations, but mistakes can slip through. If you find one, tell us and we will fix it.
KanChinese is a learning aid. It does not promise any exam result, including on the HSK.
Your account
- You can use KanChinese without an account (“Use this device only”), or sign in with a username, with Google, or with Apple.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- You can delete your account at any time: in the app under Me → Privacy → Delete account, or on the web at /delete-account. Deleting it removes your saved words and progress for good.
- KanChinese is not directed at children under 13.
KanChinese Pro (subscriptions)
- Much of KanChinese is free. KanChinese Pro opens the paid parts (such as the HSK 2 and higher courses and word books). What is included is shown on the plans screen before you buy.
- Pro is sold as a monthly or a yearly subscription. The price, in your currency, is shown before you confirm. Payment is taken by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play), whichever store you bought through.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account with the store is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- If a plan comes with a free trial or a first-year price, the plan screen says how long it lasts and what it renews at. If you cancel during a free trial, you are not charged.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in your store account: on iPhone in Settings → your name → Subscriptions, on Android in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions. Deleting the app or your KanChinese account does not cancel it.
- Refunds are handled by the store you paid through, under its rules.
- Gift codes and invite rewards, where offered, give Pro for the time they state. They cannot be exchanged for money.
Using KanChinese fairly
Please do not copy, resell or republish the app’s videos, courses or recordings, try to break into the app or its server, or use it to bother other people. We may close an account that does these things.
Who owns what
The app, its videos, courses, pictures, recordings and design belong to KanChinese or are used with permission. You may use them for your own learning. Anything you make in the app — your word book, your notes — is yours.
No guarantees
We work to keep KanChinese running and correct, but we provide it “as is”. We may change, add or remove features and content. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses from using the app, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the consumer law of your country.
Changes and contact
If these terms change, the date at the top changes; for a change that matters, the app will say so first. Questions: [email protected].
